Familiar Interface

Modeled after standard email software such as Microsoft® Outlook, Messenger is intuitive and easy to use.  As many of CPI’s satisfied customers have remarked, “We don’t need to train our users on Messenger because it is so easy to use.”

Just Like Email

Just like an email program, your messages are organized into folders.  Transactions you submit are stored in your sent folder.  Query responses and unsolicited messages are delivered into your inbox.  The drafts folder lets you save your progress on a form or create a message template, for frequent runaways as an example.




Multiple Monitors?


Forget about swapping between windows to view your responses.  Messenger conveniently displays your list of responses right next to the message text.  Do you have multiple monitors?  You can simply drag a message or form to another monitor.

Share Images And Documents


Messenger works just like an email program, and you can share images and other documents just as easily as you do through email.  The only difference is that Messenger communications Documents 1are secured to the standards of any dedicated law enforcement network, instead of being broadcast over the general Internet.

Want to send a copy of a paper warrant to another agency?  Simply attach the PDF or Word file to the Messenger form.

Issuing a BOLO?  Why not add photos of the individual or car right to the BOLO message?  This powerful feature even allows agencies to share video and audio files with ease.

Case In Point

Computer Project of Illinois, at the direction of the Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC), recently installed the Messenger attachment capability.  This capability played a huge part in assisting in the apprehension of two armed robbery suspects.

mug shotOn June 15th, 2012, around 1:00 AM, two armed men robbed a Holiday Inn Express clerk at gunpoint in Bryant, Arkansas.  The getaway car was captured by the hotel security camera.  Bryant Police Department was able to obtain pictures of the vehicle from security cameras and then with the assistance of ACIC, attached the images to an administrative message (known as a “Be on the Look Out For” or BOLO) which was then sent to all surrounding law enforcement.

By 4:00 AM on the 15th, Little Rock PD and Arkansas State Police, using the pictures received from Bryant PD over the Arkansas Crime Information Center system of the vehicle and subjects, was able to identify and apprehend both suspects.
 

Save Time

Tired of copying information from a response message and pasting it into a form?  Messenger provides links directly in the message text which allow you to:

Don’t want to use the mouse?  Messenger is completely keyboard friendly.  Use keyboard shortcuts to jump between your responses, forms, and a command line interface (QW..NAM/).  Short format queries are designed to run 99% of commonly run transactions with the single press of a key.

Code Lists

When you select an NCIC code from a drop down list, Messenger immediately displays the text meaning of the code right in the form.  Using Messenger, you’ll never have to guess if you have the right code selected again.

Don’t know what that code in a response means?  Just highlight the code and press F1.  Messenger looks up the code and gives you the text translation.

VinAssist

Messenger also natively integrates the NICB VinAssist application so that you can decode a VIN to the vehicle make, model, style, and year fields on a form or from a response.

Search for a Code

Looking for the code of a specific gun manufacturer?  Messenger allows you to quickly search for a code based on the text meaning.  Just press Ctrl-F on the field and start typing your search terms.  Messenger eliminates the codes that don’t match your search.  Simply navigate to the correct code and press Enter to populate the form.

Minimum Specs for OpenFox® Messenger

Several of the versions of Microsoft® Windows™ listed below are no longer officially supported by Microsoft®. While CPI remains committed to supporting its customers and user base to the best of its ability, it may not be possible to provide complete support for ™ Messenger if it runs on an operating system that is no longer officially supported by Microsoft®. To resolve issues, it may be necessary to upgrade the device to a version of Windows™ that is supported. The user must have full access to CPI folder and to the Java Web Start™ cache folder.

OpenFox® Messenger is a Java application, and thus the Standard Edition Java must be installed and properly operating in order for Messenger to run. OpenFox® Messenger supports any version of Java equal to or later than Java version 1.5. At the time of this writing, the current release is Java 7, and CPI recommends installing this version to have the latest updates, patches, and resolutions to any security vulnerabilities.

Please note that some governing agencies have chosen to change this folder to a different location. Please check with your governing agency if this is the case.
