CHEYENNE, Wyo. —
CPI OpenFox successfully completed a modernization project for the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), significantly enhancing the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) web service by introducing vehicle transaction capabilities.
This update not only expanded access to crucial vehicle data but also ensured that all established public safety message formats were preserved. The project represents a major step forward in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of vehicle-data communications in Wyoming.
CPI modified the interface between the OpenFox Message Switch and WYDOT to exchange vehicle information in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format. The enhanced service supported vehicle registration inquiries by license plate or vehicle identification number, as well as vehicle registration searches by name.
The project preserved existing query formats used by in-state terminals, dispatch centers, remote agencies, and the Nlets network. CPI configured message routing through the existing DOT station and files, added the required input, output, and presentation stylesheets for the covered transactions, and retired the existing mainframe DOT station.
WYDOT vehicle responses were provided in a fully tagged, National Information Exchange Model-compliant XML format equivalent to JSON and included preformatted end-user text for downstream systems, including computer-aided dispatch platforms. The OpenFox Message Switch transmitted the WYDOT-provided response data.
The work retained the existing hardware platform and did not include third-party products.
CPI performed integration testing of its components and software before deployment. The project also included customer user-acceptance testing, production implementation, a post-implementation stabilization period and project transition activities.
